# How do I perform a leak test on a system with the 20 lb regulator?

> Leak testing is a way to ensure that all the connections between your propane tank and griddle are properly sealed and there are no breaks in the regulator hose

If there is a leak in the connection between your propane tank and griddle, you'll likely experience performance issues. If you are having flow problems, if your regulator’s flow limiter tripped, or if you are using your griddle after a long period of time, you’ll want to perform a leak test.

The easiest leak test is the ‘soapy water test’:

****Warning:**** Do not ignite the griddle during the test.

1. Turn burner knobs to the OFF position and close the propane tank valve.
2. Create a 90% water to 10% soap solution.
3. Connect your regulator to your propane tank.
    1. Hand-tighten, ensure it is fully seated and not cross-threaded.
4. With a paintbrush or spray bottle, apply the soapy solution to these connections:
    1. Regulator → propane tank.
    2. Griddle → regulator.
    3. Around the housing of the regulator.
    4. The entire regulator hose.

5. Leave the griddle burner knobs in the OFF position and open your propane tank valve slowly.
    1. If there are any leaks, the soap bubbles you spread will grow in that area

6. If there is a leak where your regulator connects to the griddle or to the propane tank:
    1. Close your propane tank.
    2. Check your connections to ensure they are tight and not cross-threaded.
    3. Attempt the leak test again
7. If the leak persists, [submit a customer service ticket](https://help.blackstoneproducts.com/contact/submit-a-ticket-HJ1rFjdgT). If possible, please send pictures of the leak as well as the silver housing of the regulator with the embossing.
