Our carbon steel griddle plates naturally expand and contract during heating cycles due to thermal expansion. This process can sometimes cause minor warping as the griddle plate adjusts to the heat. Warping may occur during manufacturing or within your first few cooks.

A griddle plate may also appear warped if it’s placed on an uneven surface. Check that your griddle is level and try moving it to a different location.

## ****Minor Warping:****

Minor warping is temporary. After several cooks on your griddle, the plate should flatten out.

If the plate does not flatten after several cooks, [contact our support team](https://help.blackstoneproducts.com/contact/submit-a-ticket-HJ1rFjdgT) and include recent photos of the warping. If you haven’t already, make sure to [register your griddle](http://www.blackstoneproducts.com/register).

## ****Crowning:****

A slight crowning of up to 1/4" is normal and should settle after several heat cycles.

If the crowning interferes with your cooking experience, [contact our support team.](https://help.blackstoneproducts.com/contact/submit-a-ticket-HJ1rFjdgT)

## ****Preventing Warping:****

To help prevent warping:

* Avoid excessively preheating your griddle, especially when applying cold or frozen food, to prevent thermal shock.
* Avoid using large amounts of water when cleaning your griddle.
